Union workers enjoying picnic to celebrate workers
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
One day, every year, is set aside to recognize the achievements of American Workers.
Labor Day's been observed for more than 100-years.
For decades, here in Sioux City, the Northwest Iowa Labor Council has put on a picnic for local workers.
Monday afternoon, they cooked up 2,000 hot dogs and hamburgers out at Riverside Park.
They also raffled off bikes for the kids.
Organizers say the picnic isn't just for union members.
"Labor Day's for everybody who works, whether they're union or not. I want working men and women to come out and be able to relax and enjoy themselves for the day. They don't have to cook and they're getting a meal provided to them out here," John Hamm, Northwest IA Labor Council President.
Local candidates for state and local office served up lunch, with a side of politics today.
