President Barack Obama spoke in Sioux City on Saturday and now the President plans to bring his re-election campaign back to Iowa later this week. Campaign officials say the day after his campaign speech at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, the president and First Lady Michelle Obama will attend a rally in Iowa City. Also attending the Friday appearance will be Vice President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill Biden.
Republican Vice Presidential nominee Paul Ryan will be back in Iowa Tuesday. He'll speak at a campaign event at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids Tuesday afternoon and then in Adel in central Iowa Wednesday morning. Iowa is one of a handful of key swing states being targeted by both campaigns.
To celebrate workers, the Northwest Iowa Labor Council puts on a picnic each Labor Day. It wasn't just union members and their families who showed up this year. Organizers cooked up 2,000 hot dogs and hamburgers at Riverside Park for the meal. It also gave candidates for state and local offices to meet and greet the public.
