YANKTON, S.D. (KTIV) -

A British adventurer is tackling the Mighty Missouri on his quest to raise money for charity.

Dave Cornthwaite is swimming 1,000 miles on the river, from Chamberlain, South Dakota, all the way to St. Louis.

He's got a team by his side, making sure he's safe as he tries to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness.

We caught up with Cornthwaite in Yankton.

"Four weeks ago I wasn't a swimmer I'd only swam 300 meters in one go without stopping, so now we're about 180 miles into this journey, there's now a lot of currents and flows with us, and it's just a great adventure," Dave Cornthwaite, who is swimming part of the Missouri River said.

Cornthwaite's Expedition 1000 quest, means he's trying to complete 25, 1,000 mile journeys using non-motorized transport.

So far, he's feeling good and still pretty excited for the journey ahead.
