ORANGE CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
In his first large-scale rally since last week's Republican National Convention, the party's presidential nominee Mitt Romney was back on stage, and back on message, Friday.
Romney says President Barack Obama can't create jobs, or get the economy moving. Romney wasted little time addressing the August jobs report, which was released Friday. Mitt Romney, (R) Republican Presidential Candidate says, "It's a national tragedy." The report says businesses created 96,000 jobs in August, which was below expectation. The report also showed unemployment stayed above 8% for the 43rd straight month. Mitt Romney, (R) Republican Presidential Candidate says, "This president tried, but didn't understand what it took to make it work. I do."
Romney's five-point plan hinges on exploring America's energy resources like renewables, natural gas, and oil, which he hopes will be carried by the Keystone XL pipeline. Mitt Romney, (R) Republican Presidential Candidate says, "That will put millions of Americans back to work."
Romney says he'll champion small business if elected, and train workers for the jobs of tomorrow. Romney also wants to reduce the debt that he says students at Northwestern College will inherit when they graduate. Mitt Romney, (R) Republican Presidential Candidate says, "We are killing the American dream for our children. It will stop if I'm elected President of the United States."
Romney also offered a prediction for the election now just 60 days away. Mitt Romney, (R) Republican Presidential Candidate says, "If Barack Obama is elected to four more years, it will be like the last 4 years. And, Americans are going to say 'no' to that."
College security says about 3,000 people packed today's rally. But, the Des Moines Register reports people were still outside-- waiting to get in-- when the fire marshal closed the doors because Bultman gym reached its capacity.
