field fire near Salix, IA
NEAR SALIX, Iowa (KTIV) -
An illegal burn grows out of control quickly outside Salix, Iowa Saturday afternoon.
Fire Chief Justin Iverson says a resident was burning a pile of garbage when the winds picked up and carried the flame into a nearby cornfield that was partially combined.
Iverson says it blew across a 40 acre section and burned about 20 acres.
It took crews from Salix, Sergeant Bluff, and Sloan about an hour to get the fire under control.
Fire officials remind residents that a burn ban is still in place and that residents will be cited and fined if they don't comply.
Woodbury County does have burn bales on hand for those who need them.
