NEAR YANKTON, S.D. (KTIV) -
It's been a staple it it's community.
Now, because of federal budget cuts and restructing, Yankton's Charlie Battery is rolling up its flag and consolidating with another guard unit.
Sunday, they held a "re-flagging ceremony" for the unit, saying goodbye to the name Charlie and welcoming in the title Bravo.
Many people came out to show their support and appreciation for all the unit has done.
Originally, there were 156 soldiers between the two units.
Combined, the unit can only keep 74 soldiers.
The Salem base will join Yankton, bringing the name of Bravo with them.
Officials say the changes have to do with the draw down of troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Michael Magorian, Charlie Battery member for over eight years said, "We brought in another great group of guys that are going to make the unit better then what it was. So now we're going to have a bigger, stronger, better unit with a new name.
Charlie Battery lost three of it's own during Operation Iraqi freedom.
