There are very few energy sources that have access to free raw materials. Just wind, water, and solar.
Sunday, the Clay County Fair dedicated an exhibit to wind energy and its importance to the state of Iowa.
Several different vendors greeted guests in Spencer.
Exhibits ranged from a helicopter cleaning service for wind turbines and towers, to schools that train wind workers.
Iowa ranks 1st in the nation in wind energy jobs.
"Almost 50% of the 500 component manufacturers and wind-related businesses have a presence in Iowa," said Dr. Harold Prior, the executive director of the IWEA.
Two companies involved in the transmission of wind power also showed a presence at the fair.
Clean Line Energy plans to build a transmission site in O'Brien County, and move the wind energy harnessed in Northwest Iowa to more populate places out east.
Prior says the two companies combined will double Iowa's wind energy capacity.
