Police say the motorcyclist had at least one broken leg, other broken bones and possibly a head injury.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
A teen-driver making a left-hand turn hit a motorcyclist and sent him to the hospital with several broken bones.
The accident happened just after 7:00 a.m. Monday at Helmer Street and West 3rd in Sioux City.
Police said the teenage driver of the mini-van was turning left onto Helmer and hit the motorcyclist who was driving west on West 3rd.
The motorcyclist had at least one broken leg, other broken bones and possibly a head injury according to officials. He was not wearing a helmet.
"Anytime a motorcycle is involved there is going to be a pretty serious injury especially if they get head on there just isn't a whole lot there to protect them, if they have a helmet on it's always a better deal but that doesn't always prevent head injury or fatality," said Officer Tom Gill with the Sioux City Police Department.
The teen driver told police she didn't see the motorcyclist because the sun was in her eyes.
She was ticketed for failure to yield.
