Mayor's Youth Commission sorts clothes before taking them to schools for students in need.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Some Sioux City teens are proving that volunteering can make a big difference.
They gathered money to buy thousands of dollars worth of clothes for kids in need.
The "Change for Children" Project started with an idea from East High Senior Taylor Pluim, that gathered steam with help from the Sioux City Mayor's Youth Commission.
Knowing some students go to school without coats or good shoes during the winter, they've been raising money to remedy that.
They had hoped to bring in $500, but raised $2,000 with a big donation from the Sioux City Police Officers Association.
"Well it just shows that, I mean, anyone can really help out the community if they get some help from other people who care about the community also," said Taylor Pluim, Mayor's Youth Commission Member.
Monday night, the clothes were sorted.
The Mayor's Youth Commission will deliver them to several area schools at the end of the week.
