Victims' families and others plan to gather and grieve Tuesday at ground zero, the Pentagon, and near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. In New York City, a focus on healing means there will be a smaller memorial ceremony than in previous years. Politicians won't be speaking at the solemn ceremony but are welcome to attend.
A late night for Sioux City firefighters who battled a large grassfire near Outer Drive and 28th Street. No buildings were threatened in the Monday night fire, but windy and dry conditions helped fuel the flames. Crews from several fire stations were on the scene until shortly after midnight.
A new study is making recommendations on how to pump new life into downtown Sioux City. The International Economic Development Council suggests filling empty space with local or regional retail businesses, urban housing, or possibly a downtown university. The city commissioned the group last March to look at the city's strengths and weaknesses. The council presented its 80-page report to the city council on Monday.
Some Sioux City teens are volunteering to make a big difference. They gathered money to buy thousands of dollars worth of clothes for kids in need. The "Change for Children" Project started with an idea from East High Senior Taylor Pluim. Knowing some students go to school without coats or good shoes during the winter, they've been raising money to fix that. They had hoped to bring in $500 dollars, but raised $2,000 with a big donation from the Sioux City Police Officers Association.
