VAIL – Mark Segebart, a sixth generation family farmer, community leader and sixteen year Crawford County Supervisor, officially launched his Iowa Senate bid by filing his statement of candidacy and nomination petitions with Iowa Secretary of State Matt Schultz in March. Segebart is running in Senate District 6, a seat which includes all of Audubon, Buena Vista, Carroll and Sac Counties in addition to the eight eastern townships in Crawford County.
As a consistent and common sense conservative, Segebart is focusing his campaign on bringing more jobs to western Iowa, allowing hardworking taxpayers to keep more of their own money, and making government more efficient, effective and responsive.
"As a county supervisor and sixth generation family farmer, I will bring extensive public and private sector experience to the Iowa Senate. I know first-hand what it takes to grow our economy, create jobs, allow Iowans to keep more of their own money and make government more efficient and effective," said Segebart, 61, who is seeking to replace Senator Steve Kettering (R-Lake View), who is retiring after 14 years in the Legislature. "I am a common sense conservative who is pro-life, believes strongly in the Second Amendment, and feels Iowans should be allowed to vote on the very basic definition of marriage," he added.
Besides his work on the family farm and on the Crawford County Board of Supervisors, Segebart and his wife Catherine have been advocates for children their entire lives. Catherine as a long-time public school teacher and Mark as school bus driver for the ArWeVa Community School District.
Segebart is a member and past-president of the Crawford County Cattleman's Association and is also a member of the Iowa Soybean Association and the Iowa Corn Growers. He has served on the Crawford County Board of Health, the Buena Vista, Crawford, and Sac County Early Childhood Iowa Empowerment Board for 12 years, and eight years on the WESCO Industries Board of Directors based in Denison - a non-profit sheltered workshop serving over 100 clients from Crawford, Carroll, Audubon, Shelby, Monona, Ida and Harrison Counties. Segebart has also been a board member of the Crawford County Early Childhood Center since its creation ten years ago - a center that cares for over 200 children every day.
He and his wife Catherine of 40 years have farmed outside of Vail and are the proud parents of two adult children, a daughter Martha and a son Alex. They are active members of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla.
"I will bring experienced, calm, consistent, common-sense, conservative leadership to the Iowa Senate and I look forward to working hard to earn the support of the citizens of Senate District 6 in the weeks and months ahead," he concluded.
