NORFOLK, Neb. (KTIV/US92) -
An event, in Northeast Nebraska not only commemorated the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11th terrorist attacks, but also showed the importance to a generation too young to remember it.
The Wesley Center Day Care in Norfolk hosted a Patriot Day commemoration.
The event was attended by Post 16 American Legion Riders, Norfolk Police and city officials.
Organizers say the event was designed to teach the importance of patriotism to a group of kids who were all too young to have experienced the September 11th attacks and their aftermath firsthand.
City officials say it's up to the older generation to make sure that kids always realize why this day is special.
Sue Fuchtman, Norfolk Mayor said, "At all times we are susceptible to what we can never imagine, as we saw. I guess it's just that necessity to always remember that freedom is not free."
The youngsters joined the event organizers in saying the pledge of allegiance and singing patriotic songs.
Wesley Center officials say about 75 kids took part in the event.
