Planting and restoring 36 acres near South Ravine Park as part of a Prairie Park project will start soon.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Did you know it's Iowa Prairie Heritage Week? Governor Terry Branstad proclaimed this week to highlight our natural prairie lands.
In honor of the week, the city announced it will begin planting and restoring 36 acres near South Ravine Park as part of a Prairie Park project.
"It was originally going to be a large park, high maintenance park, what we've done is turned it into a prairie park, very low cost, and very low maintenance," Derek Carmona, Sioux City Environmental Services Analyst said.
The city hopes to open the prairie park possibly by the end of next year. Along with the park, the city is putting together a Parried Recovery Team to help with seeding.
