BPI to announce major lawsuit at press conference Thursday

Beef Products, Incorporated will file what it calls a "major lawsuit" alleging defamation of its signature product, "lean, finely textured beef." A former USDA employee gave the product another derogatory name in an e-mail written several years ago. That name was picked up by several food-related websites, and eventually by major news networks. BPI has called a press conference for 10 o'clock Thursday morning at its Dakota Dunes, South Dakota headquarters.

UPDATE: Sioux City authorities investigate three "suspicious" incidents

Three suspicious incidents on Wednesday have many parents in Siouxland anxious and worried. The first incident happened about seven o'clock Wednesday morning at 11th and Jennings. Police say a man in a silver Honda drove slowly by a bus stop and made suspicious comments to a girl there. Just two hours later a second incident took place in the Morningside neighborhood and the third took place just after one o'clock on the city's west side.

Prairie Park Restoration Gets Underway

It's Iowa Prairie Heritage Week in Iowa. In honor of the week, Sioux City officials announced it will begin planting and restoring 36 acres near South Ravine Park back to native prairie land. The city hopes to open the prairie park possibly by the end of next year.

Bishop Heelan students clean up a monastery for service day

Kindergarten through 12th grade students from Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools volunteered all across the city. Putting homework aside to help others, the students worked on several projects as part of the school's Annual Service Day. While the day was about volunteering, the kids also learned an important lesson in teamwork.
