ORANGE CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Quarterback Davis Bloemendaal threw two touchdown passes and both Brandon Smith and Theo Bartman eclipsed the 100 yard mark on the ground as No. 17 Northwestern defeated No. 16 Doan 28-14 Saturday in Orange City.
Still scoreless nearing the end of the first quarter, Bloemendaal and the Red Raiders capped off a 12-play 83 yard drive with a four yard touchdown strike to Brice Byker to give NWC a 6-0 lead.
Doane answered with a 10-play 80 yard to open the second quarter and used a double-reverse pass to find the endzone to take a 7-6 lead.
10 minute later, facing fourth a goal from the three yard line, Smith lowered his head and pounded through for the touchdown. Northwestern converted the two point try on a bootleg from Bloemendaal to take a 14-7 lead into the half.
Bloemendaal would add a five yard touchdown pass and Bartman found the endzone early in the fourth quarter as the Red Raiders improved to 2-1 on the season.
