Mark Weisman scored three touchdowns in Iowa's win.
Iowa City, IA (KTIV) -
If you thought Iowa's running back situation couldn't get any worse, it did Saturday afternoon against Northern Iowa.
Both Damon Bullock and back-up Greg Garmon were injured in the first half and didn't return to the game.
That left third stringer Mark Weisman. A walk-on, the sophomore carried the Hawkeyes in a 27-16 win over the Panthers.
After Iowa found the endzone once in its previous two games, Weisman rushed for 114 yards and hit paydirt three times.
Weisman also caught three passes for 33 yards as the Hawkeyes improved to 2-1 on the season.
In true fullback form he likes to run people over, but thinks he needs to add some finesse to his game.
"That's my style of running and it is what it is," Weisman said. "But, I definitely need to work on maybe little moves trying to get around them, but right now, that's just my style as a fullback."
"Even before today, a lot of us had a lot of confidence in Mark," quarterback James Vandenberg added. "He's a great guy. He's been around the program a year and a half now and a guy that's really dependable back there."
Iowa hosts Central Michigan Sept. 22. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. and can be seen on the Big Ten Network.
