Seniors encouraged to fight identity theft and prescription abuse at Sioux City event

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

Identity theft and prescription drug mis-use can both be problems for seniors.

But there is an event taking place in Sioux City that can help older adults fight both.

Siouxland Aging Services is hosting a document shredding event in conjunction wit a prescription drug take back program.

Chris Kuchta with Siouxland Aging Services says it's important that seniors get rid of older documents that may contain social security numbers and thing an identity thief can use against you.

A professional shredding company will shred personal documents for you at the September 24th event.

Also going on at the same time, a prescription take back event with law enforcement.

Seniors can drop off old or unused prescription drugs which will then be disposed of properly.

The goal is to keep old medicines out of the water supply and out of the hands of people who might mis-use or abuse them.

The two events take place Monday, September 24th from 11am until 1pm at the Siouxland Center for Active Generations off of Sioux City's Hamilton Boulevard.
