Diamonds are a girl's best friend, and now the subject of one of the world's best-kept secrets.

The Christian Science Monitor reports that a vast diamond field containing "trillions of carats" was discovered beneath a crater in Siberia. It's been kept a secret since the 1970s, until now.

Officials say there are enough diamonds in the field to supply global markets for 3,000 years.

Interestingly, the diamonds are reportedly twice as hard as usual gemstones.
