James White runs for a touchdown in Iowa State's 37-3 win over Western Illinois.
AMES, Iowa (KTIV) - -
Iowa State is off to a 3-0 start for the second straight season. The Cyclones have the week off and are going to do what most of us do with a week off...not much.
Iowa State's 3-0 start last season was followed by four straight losses, in what turned out to be a 6-7 season.
The Cyclone defense has not allowed a touchdown in their last two games, something that hasn't happened in Ames since 1959.
For now, it's time to get healthy and get ready for the conference schedule, which includes five of the top 17 teams in the current Associated Press poll.
"We have a lot of improvement to take place," said linebacker Jake Knott. "This bye week going to be huge in doing that. Having guys relatively healthy gives us a chance to get better during the bye week and not just rest."
"The bye week's coming at a good time," said quarterback Steele Jantz. "Any time you can get a bye, you'll take it. If we could play next week we would but we're going to use the bye week to our advantage."
Iowa State will open Big 12 play on September 29th when they host Texas Tech at six o'clock.
