Scandinavian dinner event held to raise money for Morningside Lutheran Church's new kitchen.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
A church kitchen that has been key in outreach programs in the Siouxland community is in need of repairs.
That's why organizers at the Morningside Lutheran Church community is throwing a Scandinavian dinner event to raise money.
They say over the years, the church and various non-profit groups have all used the kitchen. And it's gotten worn down.
"The kitchen gets a lot of use here at Morningside Lutheran with dinner for the elderly, young people use the kitchen a lot," said Sandy Sable, volunteer.
"Well the original kitchen at Morningside Lutheran was constructed in 1956. So you can imagine that was a long time for having that kitchen be in use here. So it's really in need of a remodel," Darrin Vick, Pastor, Morningside Lutheran said.
Organizers say they've raised more than half of the $80,000 needed to pay for new flooring, walls, and equipment.
They hope Thursday night's dinner will raise the remaining amount needed, about $10,000, so they can start work on the kitchen in a couple weeks, and finish remodeling in time for Christmas.
