SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
It is one of the oldest pastimes in America where kids actually get to drive a car, well a derby car.
This weekend, the Greater Siouxland Soap Box Derby put on an event, to teach kids who have never driven a soap box, how.
The kids were then shuttled to the top of a hill, for their very first ride down.
Coordinator Rick Atkinson says it's a sport where the entire family can be in the pit crew.
"So you're standing at the top of the hill, watching your kids go down the hill, you know urging them on, and it's kind of an adrenaline rush to tell you the truth," Atkinson said.
Atkinson also says this is the best time for kids to learn about soap box racing, since the racing season has just started.
