SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

One Siouxland man is showing the nation that dreams can come true, even if it means going through some unexpected twists to get there.

We talked with Casey Muessigmann, a contestant on NBC's show, "The Voice," over Skype.

"I was always a singer. No matter what I did, I was a singer in class. Literally, in class, while the teacher was talking, I was a singer," said Casey Muessigmann, "The Voice" contestant.

Casey Muessigmann always wanted to be in the music spotlight, but it took an injury to get him there.

"Just a few weeks before national tournament and was really making a strong push, and then, I hurt my meniscus," said Muessigmann.

The injury forced Casey off the wrestling mat at Morningside College, and after a series of auditions, onto the music stage.

Earlier this month, the nation saw him perform "Sweet Home Alabama" on NBC's show, "The Voice."

And how sweet it was.

"I started singing, and then as soon as Blake's chair turned, I was like, alright buddy, let's have some fun with this! And I just finally let loose and was just doing my thing, and then CeeLo turned, and then I was like, what are you doing dude," said Muessigmann.

Two huge music stars wanted to work with Casey, a 23 year old, average Joe, from Spencer, Iowa.

And he had the ability to choose which one.

For Casey, the right choice was Blake.

"From the limited time I've spent with him, he is one sarcastic son of a gun. And I tell you what, we can quick fire back and forth real quick. Both really witty, and I'll tell you what, he is a blast. He's just a great guy. He's a great personality, and he's a great coach," said Muessigmann.

No matter what happens the rest of the way, one memory, one moment, will always stick with him.

The moment which changed everything.

"To finally get to step on that stage in front of those people, in front of America, it's life changing. It really is," said Muessigmann.

Casey says he plans on settling around Nashville, Tennessee to pursue his music career.
