SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

One in 88, that's how many children are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

Now, children with the disorder will be able to get help right here in Sioux City.

The Pier Center for Autism will be located at 709 Iowa Street, right next to St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Besides the educational support they'll get, like tutoring services, the center will offer kids one-on-one sessions with a behavior analyst.

The facility will also provide hope.

"The fact that there's something like this, the Pier Center for Autism that's opening up, it gives you some hope and keeps the dream alive to make sure you maximize the building of your child," said Tony Michalski, project organizer.

One parent, who has a child with autism, says the best part of the center is its location.

"They can see our son Nick, for Nick, you know and not someone who's traveled for two hours or had to stay overnight in a strange place to them and then be examined by somebody," said Mark Millard, parent.

Fundraisers for the Pier Center include "The Big Hug at the The Big Snug" event on November 12th at McCarthy & Bailey's.

The Pier Center is scheduled to open by the end of this year.
