SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

A Sioux City man is in custody after he allegedly tried to rob a local convenience store.

Around 1:30 a.m. Thursday, officials responded to the Kum & Go at 1373 Pierce Street for a robbery. Authorities say their investigation showed 42-year-old Shannon Ivory entered the store, demanded money and displayed a hammer. Customers entering the store were able to intervene, and hold Ivory until police arrived.

Ivory was charged with two counts of Assault while Participating in a Felony and 1st Degree Robbery.

Authorities say their investigation continues and the relationship between this and other recent robberies is being investigated.
