Major employer in the Iowa Great Lakes is expanding
SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa (KTIV/KUOO) -
Officials with Polaris Industries say the 80,000 square foot expansion of its plant in Spirit Lake is tentatively scheduled for completion in the 1st quarter of 2014 and will create 80 or so new jobs.
The project has been awarded funding through the state's Economic Development Set-A-Side program. The Spirit Lake City Council Tuesday also approved a package of incentives for the expansion, including a seven year tax abatement.
Plant Manager Brian Hines says the expansion will house a new paint facility as they gear up for the production of Indian motorcycles
"With both the growth of Victory motorcycles and the purchase of Indian motorcycles last year we're finding the need for more capacity and more capability to build motorcycles here in Spirit Lake," said Hines.
On a related note, the one millionth item rolled off the assembly line at the Polaris Industries plant in Spirit Lake earlier this week. It was an orange Magnus Ranger 800 mid-size vehicle.
