U.S. Senator offers support to recovering addicts

A Siouxland community is celebrating those recovering from drug and alcohol addiction.

Behavioral Health Specialists of Norfolk, Nebraska hosted their annual Recovery Rally Saturday.

The event featured music, motivational speakers, and an art exhibit highlighting the work of those in recovery.

U.S. Senator Mike Johanns of Nebraska was a special guest of the ceremony.

He said he originally ran for public office to make sure those that need help always get it.

"I want you to know that you have my respect, you have my love and you have my prayers for your success," Johanns told the crowd.

Saturday's event is part of the nationwide celebration of September as National Recovery Month.

A recent study published by drug free-dot-org states that over 23 million Americans are recovering from drug or alcohol abuse.
