SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

The ribbon has been cut on Sioux City's Southbridge Drive.  The about two mile long road replaces Harbor Drive, which used to run through the base of the 185th Air Refueling Wing.

City officials say the new road has "improved interstate access" and better turning for large trucks accessing Southbridge Business Park. They hope a better road to the business park, means a boost to its economic development.

"This is an incredible achievement that's going to have decades, decades of contribution to our community," said Sioux City City Manager Paul Eckert.

"I have 500 traditional guardsmen in my organization and they need real jobs. So, this is a great step forward to make sure they have employment," said Colonel Brian Miller with the 185th Air Refueling Wing.

City officials say Southbridge Drive took a little over a year to complete.  The total cost was about $5.9 million dollars.
