SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KTIV) -
South Sioux City, Nebraska, was the focal point for the District 17 Senate Race Thursday night.
Incumbent Dave Bloomfield faced off against challenger Van Phillips.
Discussion included health care reform, distracted driving, and gambling.
Another topic, job creation.
"We've granted some tax incentives to try to boost jobs, some here in Nebraska, but again, I'm a firm believer in the private industry," said Senator Dave Bloomfield of Hoskins.
Phillips says the key to more jobs is creating small businesses in rural communities.
"We've gotta concentrate on rural revitalization, and that means there's gotta be jobs for these young people to go to, and I'm convinced that if there were jobs back in those home communities, they would go back there," said Van Phillips, District 17 Candidate.
Thursday night's forum was put on by the South Sioux City Area Chamber of Commerce Legislative Committee.
