NESTFest encourages Nebraskans to save for college

Nebraska officials are spreading the word about saving money for college.

The Nebraska Educational Savings Trust hosted an event in Norfolk Saturday known as NESTFest.

NESTFest gave kids the opportunity to play games, hop on a pony, and even pet some exotic animals.

Meanwhile, their parents were getting information on saving for their college education.

Nebraska's 529 savings plan allows parents and grandparents a tax-deductible option to build a college savings plan.

"The more that NEST is available and out there talking to citizens of Nebraska, we are getting a lot more people interested and involved," Rachel Biar, Assistant State Treasurer said.

Norfolk's NESTFest event was one of four held throughout Nebraska, Saturday.  Organizers say they were pleased with the overall turnout.
