SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
You know the old saying...if you wait long enough, everything comes back into fashion. Well, all the hot fashions at this year's Riverssance Festival are roughly a thousand years old.
Captain Terrence Reginald, or Joe Krosko, is a pirate from the time of King Henry the 8th. He says pirates have great fashion sense.
"This actually is not originally mine, you see me being a pirate and all, I absconded it," Joe Krosko said.
Among the cast of characters are the festival's visitors who feel inclined to dress up too.
"I really wanted an official outfit so I slowly put things together, this is actually the very first thing I made, and then I thought, oh I can actually make some things," Grace Claeys said.
And if you're wondering why floral wreaths are a popular accessory at the fair, it's because there's a special reason.
"The significance of the floral wreath was of course because the Elizabethan didn't bathe as frequently and so the scent of the flowers offset, the scent of the women," Ken Wells said.
But enough about fashion, you don't have to dress up to have fun at the Riverssance Fair. Phil Claeys, the festival's event coordinator says all you have to do is walk in through the gates with a smile.
"It's fun, it's merriment, it's music, it's dancing, the great food, it's just a wonderful place to be," Claeys said.
There's also live entertainment, which include knights sword fighting, and bands performing music on stage. So while, there are many fairs that come around in the fall, you may want to check this one out to party like it's 1499 in style.
