Three hundred workers at Interbake Foods in North Sioux City, South Dakota could go on strike this week. Union members have rejected a contract offer that the company called it's "last, best, and final offer." They've been working under an extension of a six-year contract that expired in April. The extension expires on Wednesday. A spokesperson for Bakers Local 433 says the union is willing to return to the negotiating table, but no date has been set.
The Sioux City city council is expected to give final approval to a ban on feeding deer and turkeys within city limits. The ban easily passed the first two readings despite a good amount of public opposition. City leaders say the drought has pushed more wildlife onto private property looking for food and that's led to more car collisions.
The Sioux City Art Center is about to undergo a major expansion. Plans are to demolish the annex, and build a brand new, six-million dollar facility attached to the main building. It will hold all of the Art Center's education programs. Officials say there's a real need for after school classes and adult education programs in the evening, but right now the Art Center closes at four.
