Eichorst will assume full AD duties on Jan. 1, 2013.
LINCOLN, Neb. (KTIV) -
After five years, Nebraska Athletic Director Tom Osborne announced he'd be retiring from his position effective Jan., 1 of next year.
On Tuesday, his replacement Shawn Eichorst was officially introduced as the 14th Athletic Director in school history.
Eichorst will serve as a Special Assistant to Chancellor Harvey Perlman before taking over in January.
He spent the last 18 month as the athletic director at the University of Miami.
The Wisconsin native is excited to be working for a historic program.
"I don't think this is a place where you have to reinvent the wheel. I think what you've got to do, is you got to get yourself immersed in everything Nebraska," Eichorst said. "And my goal would be to make something that's all ready great, even better. And, the only way to do that is to lead with values, have a vision, have really good people in place, let them do their job and hold them accountable.
Nebraska has a bye this week but will try to rebound from the worst loss in the Bo Pelini era on the road against Northwestern on Oct. 20.
