Polaris leasing former home furnishings plant for expansion

Polaris is expanding in northwest Iowa. The company has agreed to lease the former Klaussner Home Furnishings space in Milford for three years. Polaris already produces a line of electric vehicles in an adjacent building and makes ATVs, snowmobiles, and motorcycles at its plant in Spirit Lake. Company officials aren't saying what they'll be making at the new site, but say it will involve assembly, welding, and warehousing.

King, Vilsack spar over immigration, experience and debt during Sioux City debate

Steve King and Christie Vilsack trade more jabs. The candidates for Iowa's newly-drawn 4th Congressional district clashed in their fourth debate of the campaign Tuesday night at Morningside College in Sioux City. Vilsack, the Democratic challenger, took King to task over the lack of a farm bill. King, the five-term incumbent Republican, criticized Vilsack's opposition to requiring people to have a picture ID to vote.

Electric rates for MidAmerican customers on the rise

Iowa regulators approve an electric rate increase for MidAmerican Energy. The rate-hike is being allowed to cover the company's rising costs. MidAmerican temporarily raised its rates last March by $2.33 per month. That increase will remain in effect through the end of the year. In 2013, the average bill will go up another $1.30.

SC high schoolers walk to fund, expand career program

A program is helping some Sioux City high school students get an early focus on job skills. They have a chance to be in Iowa's Jobs for America's Graduates program. On Tuesday, they took some time off from class work for a walk to raise money for their program and raise awareness for IJAG. The program currently has 45 freshman and sophomore students enrolled in the class.
