UPDATE: MRHD announces partnership to bring land-based Hard Rock Casino to downtown Sioux City

Could downtown Sioux City be home to a Hard Rock Hotel and Casino? That's the proposal announced Wednesday night by Missouri River Historical Development. They're partnering for a gambling license with Sioux City Entertainment, a subsidiary of Warner Gaming of Las Vegas that says it wants to turn the Battery Building into a Hard Rock Casino. MRHD officials say the $100 million proposal is exactly what they are looking for. The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission will make the final decision of who gets the license.

Bishop Heelan breaks ground on new high school

Work is underway on a brand new Heelan High School. Officials broke ground on Phase One of the $25 million project Wednesday. The fine arts wing will include a 600-seat auditorium, classrooms, student commons and chapel. Phase one will cost $15 million. It's set to be finished in 2014.

Project could consolidate athletic fields at South Sioux High School

South Sioux City school leaders are planning to consolidate athletic facilities into one complex at the high school. Called Cardinal Park, it would include a new soccer field, baseball field, softball field and more tennis courts. As it is now, some tennis matches are played at the YMCA. The superintendent says funding for the 6-phase project would likely come from money that's already been set aside.

Budding Siouxland filmmaker talks about the movie that started her career

Now that the whirlwind of producing the movie "Winning Favor" is winding down, a Sioux Center, Iowa homemaker says she's eyeing her next project. Anita Bomgaars' idea for the movie came to her after she looked back on the detailed notes she took from her son's basketball team's road to the state tournament. The movie was first released in 2010 in theatres and was recently picked up for distribution on DVD for sale at Wal-Mart stores across the country.
