A summer-long Siouxland construction project is nearing completion

City officials in Norfolk, Nebraska say that a big pedestrian detour around Skyview Lake will be re-opening on Friday.

The sidewalk in Skyview Park has been closed for over a month while workers repair neighboring 25th Street.

A pedestrian bridge and a section of the trail had been blocked off and walkers and bikers were actually being detoured into the construction zone on the section of the recently completed 25th Street Bridge.

City officials say they are still keeping a stretch of about a mile of 25th Street itself closed while workers finish up some driveway, sidewalk and paving work but Norfolk residents are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel on this long construction project.

Nothing concrete but officials have been keeping the city council abreast of the project at each meeting and the sense is that the construction is almost done.

It does appear the project will be done well ahead of its original projected timeline of early next year.
