Iowa State is 1-2 in Big 12 play following its loss to Kansas State.
AMES, Iowa (KTIV) -
Surviving a Cyclone. That's pretty much exactly what No. 6 Kansas State did Saturday afternoon in Ames, avoiding Iowa State's second upset bid in as many weeks in a narrow 27-21 win.
Making his second start of the season, quarterback Jared Barnett continued to be the spark ISU was looking for, finishing with 166 yards and two touchdowns as the Cyclones were within a field goal of the Wildcats at the break.
However, the offense sputtered in the second half.
The Cyclones had the ball five times, and aside from a 75 yard touchdown drive to pull them within 24-21, they punted twice, turned it over on downs twice and yielded just 21 total yards of offense on their other four possessions.
"I mean we came in with a really hard focus. Just knowing what our job was and knowing that we had to be ready for a K-State team that was going to come in here and play all four quarters extremely hard," Barnett said following the loss. "And, we didn't respond to their intensity at the end of the game.
The Cyclones play Oklahoma State next weekend.
