Kids play games of Red Ribbon Week event at Long Lines Family Rec Center.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
From a climbing wall to free pizza, the Long Lines Family Rec Center in Sioux City was the place to be Monday night.
This event marks the kick off of Red Ribbon Week, an initiative that works to make kids aware of the dangers of drugs and alcohol and shows alternatives.
Sioux City is taking part in this national campaign.
About 200 kids packed in going from booth to booth learning about how to have fun in a safe way.
Sgt. Mike Manthorne, with the Sioux City Police Department Youth Services Bureau said, "It gives them ideas that there is positive things that you should be doing that aren't on the streets and fun things that they never tried before and may like to do. They realize they have a lot of support. They see all these people out here, their parents and community members that are out here to support them."
In house were also members of the Sioux City Musketeers and Bandits to help support the message.
About 200 free T-shirts were given out.
