Norfolk, NE man sentenced for shooting a woman in the head

A Norfolk, Nebraska man is sentenced to 27 years in prison for shooting a woman in the head. Thirty-four year old Carlos Arevalo-Martinez pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and a weapons charge in the February 14th shooting of Edna Gutierrez in her Norfolk home. Gutierrez survived the shooting and attended Wednesday's sentencing in Madison County court.

Members of 185th Air Refueling Wing welcomed home by family & friends

A happy homecoming for 13 members of Sioux City's 185th Air Refueling Wing. The security forces squadron returned Wednesday from an eight-month deployment to southwest Asia where it helped secure a base and did mobile patrols. After putting in 12 to 14 hour days, six days a week, the airmen say they are thrilled to be home.

Humane Society hatches bid to unseat Iowa lawmaker

Iowa Congressman Steve King says the Humane Society is targeting him this election season because he's been an effective advocate for farmers. The organization's political arm is devoting most of its campaign budget of nearly $500,000 to defeating the Republican who's running against Democrat Christie Vilsack. The group's anti-King ads focus on his votes regarding dog fighting laws and the treatment of farm animals.

The kick off to the holiday season in downtown Sioux City is almost a month away. Downtown for the Holidays will be held on November 19th. Organizers are looking for Holiday Lighted Parade entries from businesses, organizations and service groups. It's free to enter.
