SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
It's not the hills, but the Orpheum Theatre is alive with the sound of music.
The Sioux City Symphony Orchestra performed for a packed house made up of about 24-hundred 6th graders from several area schools.
Some traveled close to 60 miles by bus to be at the performance.
The "Concert for Young Audiences" is part of the symphony's educational outreach, and for some an "opportunity" of a lifetime.
"A lot of these children, they come from homes where they're not always able to access the arts, and so this is a great way to have them to experience a live symphonic experience in a world class hall," David Krogh, Sioux City Symphony Executive Director said.
"I play the flute, but I really want to play for the Sioux City Symphony when I get older," Reis Carlson 6th grader at East Middle School said.
A video accompanied the orchestra which featured the artwork produced by Sioux City Community School art students as a part of the "Pictures Project."
Students in art classes listen to selected music and then draw a picture to express what the music conveyed to them.
