SIOUX CITY, Iowa -
Presidential politics heated up along Sioux City's riverfront. Vice Presidential Candidate Paul Ryan took the stage an hour ago outside Bev's on the River, Sunday.
The campaign says 800 people turned out to hear Paul Ryan speak under a very warm autumn sun.
With the backdrop of the Missouri River, Ryan, who was introduced by Iowa Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds, talked about the flood fight, comparing Sioux City to his own town which has battled water woes along Wisconsin's James River. He said both towns showed what it means to come together as a community.
He drew other comparisons to his home state, mentioning how Wisconsin and Iowa both have Big 10 universities.
Recently, Ryan said Ohio is the battleground of all battleground states. However, he made sure to let the voters in Iowa know Sunday, the important role they play this election year.
"We're not just picking a president for four more years. We are literally picking the trajectory and nature of this nation; the kind of people we're going to be, the kind of country we're going to have for a least a generation. This is that kind of an election," said Ryan.
Ryan said the campaign is not just about paycheck issues, but about the meaning of America. At Bev's on the River, he talked about how the Romney/Ryan ticket will help small businesses.
