Garbage rates rise in Sioux City

Garbage rates are going up in Sioux City.  The city council has approved an increase of one-dollar per month for basic residential services.

Gill Hauling had requested a 70-cent increase, but the city added another 30 cents to help meet its financial obligations.  The cost of other services, including yard waste stickers will go up by from 5 to 7 percent.

Officials blame high fuel prices for the increase.
