SANTIAGO, Cuba (AP) -

State media Thursday announced eleven deaths from the storm.

In July 2005, Category Five Hurricane Dennis killed 16 people and caused two-point-four billion dollars in damage in Cuba.

State television said nine of the deaths from Hurricane Sandy took place in Santiago Province.

Homes were destroyed, and wind and rain from hurricane sandy even caused a train to derail.

The other two deaths in Cuba took place in Guantanamo Province.

Hurricane Sandy also caused flooding and property damage in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

At least two deaths have been reported in Haiti, where the slow moving storm caused rivers to rise.

As of 8 a.m. eastern time on Friday, Hurricane Sandy was moving northeast with maximum sustained winds of around 80-miles-per-hour.

The storm is expected to decrease in forward speed before turning north Friday night.

And toward the Northeast on Saturday.

A hurricane warning is in effect for parts of the northwestern Bahamas.

A tropical storm warning is in effect for the central Bahamas, the east coast of Florida from ocean reef to Flagler Beach and Lake Okechobee.
