Authorities: Man escapes from Yankton County, SD jail

YANKTON, S.D. (KTIV) -

The search continues for a man who escaped from the Yankton County Jail and whom authorities say has a history of violence.

Police say 32-year-old Kai Hansen was able to open a garage door while he and another inmate were washing cars Sunday night.

He fled on foot but authorities believe he later stole an all-terrain vehicle and then a car.

Search dogs eventually lost his trail.

Hanson was in jail on a parole violation stemming from a burglary conviction.

His last known address was Sioux Falls.
