The Children's Museum of Siouxland hopes to start construction next spring.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Hy-Vee food stores donated $10,000 to support the new Children's Museum.
It'll be built at 6th and Pearl Street in downtown Sioux City.
So far, community members have given $800,000 toward the four-point-five million dollar capital campaign.
Hy-Vee says they care about children and families in the community.
"It was important for to us to be a part of it right away. We wanted to step forward first and be a part of that community event right away," Dan Vondrak, the Hy-Vee Store Director said.
"We are just thrilled that the local community has stepped up and made such a significant total contribution towards our capital campaign and goal. Having those local donors be excited and supportive of the project really makes it easier for us to find additional funds at that government level and from those outside of the community locations," Kari Kellen, the Executive Director of the Children's Museum of Siouxland said.
Kellen says they hope to start construction in the spring and open during the summer of 2014.
