NEWARK, Del. (KTIV) -
Winds whistle and rapid rains slam the homes in Newark, Del., as Sandy rages across the East Coast.
"It has not stopped raining since I'm probably going to say around 8 o'clock Sunday night," said Medina."We have not had a break in the rain."
For the first time in days, Bishop Heelan graduate Kali Medina is getting ready to leave her home, a task that itself is challenging.
"You've got to be very careful because you don't know how deep it is. You could start driving your car through something, and it ends up, you could stall out," said Medina.
Since she grew up in the Midwest, Medina has seen bad storms before, but nothing like this.
"This is probably the worst that I've ever, ever seen it," said Medina. "As far as the high winds and power loss and things like that."
When Medina looks outside, she sees damage, but it could have been a lot worse. The siding peels back from her house, but as far as she can tell there's no other permanent destruction to her home.
"And all of a sudden, you'll get a gust of wind that's like a 90 mile an hour. It just literally moves the trees kind of sideways, the rain is coming down at a sideways slant," said Medina.
Over the weekend, the Medinas visited store after store, cooked and readied their house for the storm.
"We literally bungee cord things down. Everything is in our garage, deck chairs, things like that," said Medina.
As she waits out the storm, Medina says there's only one way to wait.
"You just hunker down inside. You stay away from windows. It was just nonstop yesterday with trees that had gone into people's roofs or large branches that were broken off because of the high winds," said Medina.
