NEAR PONCA, Neb. (KTIV) -
It's been more than two weeks since a boater disappeared in the Missouri River near Ponca State Park. Steven Bevelhymer was fishing with his brother and attempting to anchor the boat when both were pulled under by the current. While his brother was able to get back inside the boat, Bevelhymer didn't.
The Nebraska Parks and Games commission have joined several other local agencies in the recovery mission. A body was found near Winnebago, Neb., on Wednesday, but it wasn't Bevelhymer's.
"We have been running the river, mornings and nights, over larger distances, looking for a visual search at that point," said Craig Stover with the Nebraska Parks and Games Commission.
On the first two days of searching, rescue dogs helped narrow the search area. Authorities have also used sonar, and other high tech equipment, to find him.
Officials say the winding nature of the river, and its depth, have made the search much more difficult. Now, they're bringing dogs in again, to help find the body.
