Midamerican Energy workers head east to help restore power after Hurricane Sandy

DES MOINES, Iowa (KTIV) -

Midamerican Energy is doubling the number of workers it is sending to the east coast to help with utility damage and power outages caused by Hurricane Sandy.

Over the weekend, 15 Midamerican employees left Des Moines for Poughkeepsie, New York to help provide emergency restoration service.

Today, another 14 Midamerican workers from Iowa left for the northeast.

The crews expect to be gone for up to two weeks.

In addition, more than 100 contract lineworkers and tree clearance workers also headed east to help.
