The Iowa Department of Natural Resources investigates a fish kill

NEAR SIOUX CENTER, Iowa (KTIV) -

The DNR has traced a fish kill in the West Branch of the Floyd River to a business south of Sioux Center, Iowa.

We're still waiting on lab results, but it appears the likely source of the discharge causing the fish kill is Sioux-Preme Packing Company.

DNR staff found elevated ammonia levels and thousands of dead fish for at least nine miles downstream of the plant.

The company has hired a contractor to pump water pooled in a tributary to the stream where ammonia has concentrated.
