CF Industries plans to invest $1.7 billion to expand its fertilizer plant near Salix, Iowa. Governor Terry Branstad came to Sioux City to make the announcement Thursday. He says it's the largest capital investment ever in the state of Iowa. The expansion will create 100 new jobs. The state is kicking in $1.5 million in direct assistance and tax credits totaling $22 million. That could climb to $57 million over the next four years.
CF officials say it's a perfect time to build. They say it just makes sense to expand in Siouxland because of the existing plant at Port Neal. They also say Siouxland is right in the heart of the best fertilizer market in the world. CF has seven manufacturing complexes in the U.S. and Canada. The company is also expanding operations at its plant in Louisiana.
