NORFOLK, Neb (KTIV/US92) -
When Nebraska voters go to the polls next Tuesday, there will be four ballot amendments they will be voting on.
One of them deals with the issue of term limits.
Constitutional Amendment three is asking Nebraska voters whether or not they would like to see the term for a member of the state legislature extended from two consecutive four-year terms to three consecutive four-year terms.
We had a chance to talk with Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman about the proposed amendment this week.
He has voiced opposition to the extension and says the current system prevents senators from serving too long and brings about new ideas.
Meanwhile, we also spoke with State Senator Tom Carlson of Holdrege, Nebraska.
He says he introduced the idea of adding another four-year term to allow senators more time to get acclimated to life in the legislature.
Carlson says while he does believe in term limits, the proposal will result in better state senators.
But, ultimately this issue is not up to the Governor or State Senators.
It's the people of Nebraska that will make that decision next Tuesday.
